ROCK FALLS – Harold R. Palmer, 84, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Harold was born June 1, 1930, in Manito, the son of Elmer and Iva (Vance) Palmer. He was a graduate of Manito High School. He married Janet L. Furrer on Feb. 12, 1949, in Manito. Harold farmed first in Easton, and then south of Rock Falls. He served on the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Board and the Tampico Fire and Ambulance District Board. His family was the center of his life. He loved to hunt, fish, dance, and play cards with friends. Harold was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; three children, Barbara J. (Paul) Eshelman of Ithaca, New York, Richard A. (Karen) Palmer of Sterling, and Martha J. (Brian) Herron of Geneseo; nine grandchildren, Emily Virkler, Erik Eshelman, Adam Palmer, Rachel Bollinger, Ryan Palmer, Laura Mattie, David Mattie, Kyle Herron, and Evan Herron; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lela Johnson of Manito; and one brother, Clarence Palmer of Manito.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Opal Ethell; and two brothers, Robert Palmer and Nelson Palmer.

A gathering will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Wesley Dickson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
