DIXON – The Stephenson County crash that left a Dixon motorcyclist dead last week is still under investigation.

Investigators are working on a crash reconstruction and awaiting toxicology reports before deciding whether citations will be issued, State Police Master Sgt. Carl Heintz said Tuesday.

David E. Essex, 30, died at the scene Thursday night on U.S. Route 20 near its intersection with Rock City Road.

Police said he was speeding west on Route 20 when his motorcycle struck the side of a semitrailer driven by Luke Garard, 25, of Freeport. Garard, who was not injured, was crossing the intersection after stopping at a stop sign, police said.

According to his Facebook page, Essex was a graduate of Stillman Valley High School. An online page has been created at gofundme.com/c4glxg to raise money for funeral expenses and other bills.
