Published: Saturday, July 26, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

DIXON – Peoria Avenue will slowly begin to open to traffic next week as the downtown streetscape project enters its 11th week.

Pavement will be completed on the south end of Peoria at Third Street, and the roadway will be opened to only local traffic from the south.

According to the engineering companies:

Parking lane pavement will be poured on the east side of Peoria Avenue, between First and Second streets. There also will be electrical installations, and building vault work at the Telegraph office.

Work planned on First Street between Peoria and Hennepin avenues includes finishing water service connections, which will require short-term service interruptions that will be coordinated with property owners. Additional short-term roadway closures of the north side of the block will be necessary for water service tie-ins and removal operations.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
