MORRISON – Nellie Pruis-Douma, 97, of Resthave Home in Morrison, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at Morrison Community Hospital. She was employed for more than 24 years at General Electric Co. in Morrison.

Nellie was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Fenton, the daughter of Dick and Grace (Hook) Barsema. She married Jacob Pruis on Aug. 22, 1935, in Fulton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1947. She married Charles Douma on Dec. 30, 1961, in Morrison. He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1962. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison.

Survivors include one daughter, Alva (V. “Doc”) Sikkema of Carroll, Iowa; three sons, Harry J. (Eileen) Pruis of Morrison, Larry G. (Janet) Pruis of Birch Run, Michigan, and Warren D. (Marica) Pruis of Morrison; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace (Elmer “Junior”) Forney, and one brother, Herman Barsema, both of Clinton, Iowa.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Yarbrough; two grandsons; six brothers, Cornelius, Marcus, John, Joe, Zepe, and Frank Barsema; and four sisters, Gertrude Barsema, Lena Blink, Jennie Barsema, and Alice Redell.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison, with Rich Criss, ministry coordinator, officiating. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.

A memorial has been established to Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison.
