Obituaries

W. Joyce Cole

SANDWICH – W. Joyce Cole, 80, of Sandwich, formerly of Sterling, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. She was employed for 10 years at National Manufacturing Co.

Joyce was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Fairfield, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Horton) Etheridge. She married John Cole on April 30, 1979, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda (Alex) Ramirez of Sterling, and Janice (Jim) Wetzell of Coleta; one son, Dennis (Dodie) Whitmer of Sandwich; five stepchildren, Kerry (Sandy) Cole and Dale (Penny Fowler) Cole, both of Missouri, Kelly (Cindy) Cole of Wisconsin, Tracy (Cindy) Cole of Missouri, and Sue (Steve) Barnett of Dixon; two sisters, Imogene (Doyle) Martz of Texas, and Shirley (Don) Rogers of Sullivan; two brothers, Frank (Anita) Etheridge of Indiana, and John Etheridge of Plano; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; and 19 step-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Winters and Marjorie Mathes; and one brother, Fred Etheridge.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling, with the Rev. Jamie Gallagher, pastor of First Lutheran Church of Jordan in Sterling, officiating. McDonald Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the National Shingles Foundation.
