Teddy tea party scheduled

ROCK FALLS – A number of activities are planned at Rock Falls Public Library, 1007 Seventh Ave.

The library board will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 11.

Youth programs: Children can bring a stuffed animal for a teddy bear tea party from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 5. A superhero party will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 7, and participants can wear superhero costumes.

All ages can attend both programs, which will feature games, snacks, and activities. Registration is required in person or by phone at 815-626-2958.

Rocket Readers is an after school reading program for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Stories, games, snacks, activities, and crafts are based on different themes each week. The programs are from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays. Registration is required. Rock Readers will resume in October, and the library’s newsletter will list sign-up dates.

Adult programs:The Mystery Book Club will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 7. This month’s selection is “The Light in the Ruins,” by Chris Bohjalian.

Tuesday Book Club will be 6 p.m. Aug. 26. The book selection is “Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake,” by Anna Quindlen.

Newcomers are welcome to attend both groups. Copies of the books are available at the library desk.

Scrapbooking will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8 and Aug. 22.

Special art exhibit: Beginning in August, Linda Von Holten, artist and owner of Artwork by LVH, will display her oil and acrylic works. Von Holten will be on-hand to greet viewers, answer questions, and discuss availability. The works feature characters from books adapted into motion pictures.
