OREGON – Reuben H. Barnhart Jr. passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 19, 1928, at home, in Nashua Township in Ogle County. He graduated in 1947 from Oregon High School. He married Delores Boyden on Feb. 19, 1947, in Oregon.
Reuben “Reub” worked for 35 years for the Machinist Union, ending his career as a directing business representative. He was a member of St. Bride Episcopal Church in Oregon and Silver Ridge Golf Course. For many years, he was a member of the Oregon Sportsman Club, and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. His family was his life.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Barnhart of Oregon; sons, Reuben H. Barnhart III of Oregon, Steven H. and Deb (Smith) Barnhart of Wicki Wachee, Florida, and Timothy E. and Debbie (Smith) Barnhart of Oregon; daughter, Beth Anne and Steve DuBois of Eldridge, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several sisters- and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen E. (Taft) and Reuben H. Barnhart Sr.; his in-laws, Harry “Buss” Boyden and Dorothy Boyden; two sisters, Jackie Barnhart and Patricia (Coil); and his daughter-in-law, Mary (Dirksen) Barnhart.
There will be no visitation. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bride Episcopal Church in Oregon, with the Rev. Joyce Beaulieu officiating. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Bride Church and Serenity Home & Hospice, both in Oregon.
