Bond set for driver in quarry crash

WHEATON (AP) – Bond has been set at $250,000 for a 21-year-old Geneva man whose car plunged into a water-filled quarry, killing two men who were unable to escape.

DuPage County Judge Timothy McJoynt set bond Sunday morning for Michael Szot.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin had asked for a bond of $3 million.

Prosecutors say Szot was drunk when he failed to make a curve and drove into the quarry in Naperville. Divers later discovered the bodies of Sajaad Syed and Mihirtej Boddupalli still in the vehicle. Prosecutors say Szot’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.
