MOUNT CARROLL – A Mount Carroll man was in fair condition at a Rockford hospital Sunday after being injured in a three-car accident Friday outside of Mount Carroll.

Anthony Schmidt, 31, was struck when he was driving west on state Route 64. Annabelle Borota, 21, of Lanark, was driving east on the same road when she slowed her car for a farm implement. According to a news release, 62-year-old Darla Burkholder, of Lanark, was driving behind Borota but failed to slow and hit her car from behind. That caused Borota to veer into the other lane and strike Schmidt’s westbound car.

Both women refused treatment at the scene, and Schmidt was flown to OSF St. Anthony Hospital.

Burkholder was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
