Local men honored for service

MORRISON – Paul Vock and Dan Heusinkveld will be the 144th annual Whiteside County Friend of the Fair honorees at the fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield St.

Since 1989, the board has honored those who have made an extra effort to support and make the fair as fun as possible for all those who participate and attend the shows and events.

Vock was the heavy horse superintendent from 1971 to 1991, becoming the president of the board in 1992.

Heusinkveld was the running race superintendent from 1979 to 1981, becoming the harness racing superintendent in 1982.

They both continue to serve on the board.

The first event of the fair is the 8 a.m. Aug. 12 Western Horse Show in the infield at the newly- configured Gold Star F.S. Arena. Grandstand entertainment is the 7 p.m. Pro-Bull Riding.

Other events include live entertainment, a horseshoe tournament, and harness racing.

More than $119,000 in premiums will be offered in prize money to the winners in 1,500 different exhibits.

The 60-page premium books are available at banks throughout the county or online directly from the fair website.

Wilson Family Shows will provide carnival and midway attractions.
