Gail H. Dickey

AMBOY – Gail H. Dickey, 79, of Amboy, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 19, 1924, in Rock Falls, the son of Ralph and Pearl (Cox) Dickey. He had worked at Conco Tellus in Mendota and then Fantasy Flavors in Amboy, retiring in 1998.

He served in the Army from 1952 to 1955, in Korea during the Korean War. He then served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962. He married Ruth F. Lupton on Jan. 16, 1956, in Amboy. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2014.

He is survived by three sons, Gail “Butch” (Tammy) Dickey of Amboy, Robert Dickey of Rockford, and Ronald (Jeanne) Dickey of Amboy; one daughter, Barbara (Wayne) Schneider of Amboy; 14 grandchildren, Julie Kendall, Kim Hampton, Theresa Dickey-Helfrich, Timothy Dickey, Steven Dickey, Trisha Zellhofer, Travis Harbo, Tyler Dickey, Trevor Dickey, Tristen Dickey, Nolan Lawmorie-Dickey, Nathan Stevens, Lindsay Stevens and Jonas Stevens; 11 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond Dickey of Colorado and Donald (Gert) Dickey of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Dickey, Anna Shipman, Dora Goff, Eunice Stroup, and Elaine Swanson; and his brothers, Clarence, James, and Roger Dickey.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Jeanblanc officiating. Burial, with military honors accorded by the Amboy American Legion Post, will be at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy.

A memorial has been established.
