OREGON – Donald William Untz, 87, of Oregon, died Wednesday morning, July 16, 2014, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses.

Donald was born May 3, 1927, in West Brooklyn, the son of William and Mathilda (Walters) Untz. He married the love of his life, Loraine M. Payne, on June 10, 1950, in Harmon. In 1950, after coming to Oregon, he became an independent contractor for more than 50 years.

Donald was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II. He was a life member of the Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8739, where he served as past commander. He also was a member of the Foresters, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon.

The most important thing in his life was his family – he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Loraine, and his sons, Steven (Debra) Untz and William Untz, all of Oregon; daughters, Deborah (Larry) Onley of Rockford, Christine (Charles) Turner of Dixon, and Nancy (Matthew) Shull of Oregon; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Rita Jones of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Walters; and sisters, Eleanor Carter, Ruthie Larson and Mary Catherine Crawford.

Donald enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, time with his Chihuahuas, and spending winters in Donna, Texas.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon. Burial, with military honors accorded by Oregon VFW Post 8739, will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Oregon.
