SUBLETTE – Kathryn T. Balik, 63, of Sublette, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, after a sudden illness. 

She was born June 23, 1951, in Mendota, the daughter of Arthur and Jeanne (Armato) Shanyfelt. She married Seyfettin “Steve” Balik on May 9, 1998, in Las Vegas.

She had worked at V.O. Bonnell and Sons Implement Co. in Sublette and Franks Sales and Service in Normandy; and with her husband, owned and operated S&K Gyros.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette.  She bowled with the Mendota Elks Club team for many years.

She is survived by her husband; her mother of Sublette; one brother, Rex A. (Angela) Shanyfelt of Mendota; three sisters, Jacqueline (Akif) Smith-Zendelovski of Albany, Nancy (John) Cicchetti of Sublette, and Natalie (Mark) Leffelman of Cave Creek, Arizona; and nieces and nephew, Stacie (Jeff) Gerdes, Kimberly Smith, Nicole Irwin, Brandy and Kelly Cicchetti, Angela and Lindsay Leffelman, and Courtnie, Jessica, and Jesse Shanyfelt.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., with the rosary recited at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Visitation also will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette, with the Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette.
