Escaped prisoner back in Elgin police custody

ELGIN (AP) – Elgin authorities have recaptured a prisoner who escaped while being transported from a mental health facility outside Chicago to a court hearing.

Jesse Vega, 33, escaped a transport vehicle Wednesday while being taken from the Elgin Mental Health Center to the Lake County courthouse in Waukegan. He faces numerous domestic battery charges.

Elgin Police Chief Swoboda credited the sharing of a Facebook post for the escaped prisoner’s capture.
