The List: Best records of 2014, so far

Published: Wednesday, July 16, 2014 3:28 p.m. CDT

The Major League Baseball season is more than half finished when the All-Star Game is played. In fact, the Chicago Cubs have played 94 of their 162 games. Hasn't it been fun, Cubs fans? No? Oh, well.

Anyway, if fans can consider the All-Star break the halfway point of the baseball season, I feel comfortable compiling a midway-point list of my favorite records of 2014 on July 16.

Here, then, is a list of my favorite 10 records (in alphabetical order – rankings are saved for December) of 2014 at the year's sort-of-halfway point:

Bombay Bicycle Club: "So Long, See You Tomorrow"

Breton: "War Room Stories"

Dinosaur Pile-Up: "Nature Nurture"

Future Islands: "Singles"

Glass Towers: "Halcyon Days"

KONGOS: "Lunatic"

Morning Parade: "Pure Unadulterated Joy"

No: "El Prado"

The Orwells: "Disgraceland"

Together Pangea: "Badillac"

Some other favorites: Elbow: "The Takeoff and Landing of Everything;" Battleme: "Future Runs Magnetic;" Tokyo Police Club: "Forcefield;" Cloud Nothings: "Here and Nowhere;" Kaiser Chiefs: "Education, Education, Education & War;" Tiny Victories: "Haunts;" Bob Mould: "Beauty & Ruin;" The Rifles: "None The Wiser;" The Menzingers: "Rented World;" The Colourist: "The Colourist."

Give them a listen!

And, Go Cubs!
