Mount Morris man still critical

DIXON – A Mount Morris man injured in a car crash in Lee County Sunday morning still was in critical condition Wednesday.

Darrell Strite, 90, was southbound on state Route 2 around 9:30 a.m. when he tried to turn onto Sink Hollow Road. His car was hit on the passenger side by a northbound car driven by Calista Gilszmer, 28, of Dixon, Lee County Sheriff John Varga said.

Both were taken to KSB Hospital, but Strite was later flown to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford. Gilszmer was treated and released.

When asked whether any charges were pending, Varga said the matter has been passed on to the state’s attorney’s office for consideration, but that “it’s called an accident for a reason.”

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
