DIXON – A benefit for a Dixon couple with medical bills will be held at 1 p.m. July 26 at the VFW, 1560 Franklin Grove Road.

Scott Helfrich, 57, who worked for more than 30 years at Dixon Web as a pressman, overcame prostate cancer in 2007, but was diagnosed in 2012 with pancreatic cancer, which has progressed to stage 4; he is being treated.

Scott’s wife, Lynn, 58, was working at Dixon Public Schools and County Market until suffering a stroke 3 months ago; she is undergoing therapy.

The couple have no insurance and had to give up their home. They now are living in an apartment.

The benefit will start at 1 p.m. Admission is $5, which includes food. There will be a live auction that includes a Chicago Cubs-themed foot locker, and a silent auction that includes a Chicago Bears jersey. There also will be a cake walk and a baked goods sale. The band Drive will perform.

A fund in daughter Amanda Helfrich’s name has been set up at all U.S. Bank locations. Call 815-440-6882 or 815-973-5296 for more information.
