Clarke A. Devore

TAMPICO – Clarke A. Devore, 95, of Tampico, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in Rockford.  

Clarke was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Bayard, Nebraska, the son of Marion and Lorna (Adams) Devore. He was united in marriage to Mildred E. McRae on Aug. 21, 1938, in Bayard. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1996. Clarke was in the ministry for 72 years, serving for 30 years at the Church of Christ in Tampico.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Fort of Rockford and Phyllis (Otis) Leathers of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one, son Richard (Sue) Devore of Rochelle; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Betty Hubbard of Gering, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul; one grandson, Clarke; three brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church in Rockford, with the Rev. Sherm Nichols officiating.

A memorial fund has been established in Clark’s memory to Tampico Church of Christ.
