STERLING – A fundraiser for a longtime mill worker with a rare form of lung cancer is being held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Latin American Social Club, 2708 W. Lincolnway.

Charles "R.C.," "Scootie," or "Uncle Charlie" Jennings, 71, of Sterling worked at Bun Austin Chevrolet before becoming a bricklayer at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 2000.

Jennings was diagnosed in April; the cancer has since spread to his brain.

The benefit will feature a bags tournament; cost to enter is $5 per person and there will be a cash payout based on how many players sign up. There also will be a silent auction of themed baskets, cash raffles, drawings for gift certificates, a bake sale and kids activities, such as face painting and a cake walk, and food for $5 a plate.

Local bands Hitz City, M-T Pockets, and Time Bandits will play..

A bank fund also has been set up in Jennings' name at any Midland States Bank location.

Call Christa Jennings, 815-299-3959, Valarie Tanner, 815-622-8695, or Candie Reyes, 815-718-9577, for more information.
