PEORIA (AP) – Denise Leuthold was found shot to death in her Peoria home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Nathan Leuthold says he found his 39-year-old wife there after an apparent burglary. But police believe the former Baptist missionary staged the burglary and killed her.

According to the Journal Star in Peoria, jury selection started Monday in Nathan Leuthold’s trial. He has pleaded not guilty to murder in his wife’s death. He is also 39.

Police say Denise Leuthold wrote in a note that she believed her husband wanted her dead and was having an affair with a Lithuanian woman.

The Leutholds traveled between the United States and Lithuania over 15 years to work as missionaries.

That Lithuanian woman is now a Chicago student. She has denied the affair.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
