DIXON – Traffic on state Route 38 by the airport was diverted Monday afternoon because of a gas leak near the intersection with Sink Hollow Road.

The Dixon Rural Fire Department responded to the call around 2 p.m., Fire Chief Sid Aurand said, and left at 2:28 p.m., after the road was closed and Nicor Gas Co. crews took over.

Someone hit a gas main while mowing, Aurand said.

As of 5 p.m., traffic on state Route 38 still was being diverted. Nicor spokesman Duane Bourne said he didn't know for sure when repairs would be finished.
