WILMINGTON (AP) – Police say they have found the body of a 33-year-old man who drowned in the Kankakee River.

The Herald-News reports Deputy Fire Chief Todd Friddle confirmed the body was found near the Des Plaines Conservation Area shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday.

Friddle says the victim and three other people were fishing off the shore of South Island Park on Friday morning when the current swept the man under the water. His companions notified emergency services, prompting an immediate water rescue search.

Authorities continued to search the area throughout the weekend, in between bouts of stormy weather, until the body was recovered.

The identity of the victim has yet to be released.
