WOOSUNG – Jimmie Harker, 83, of Woosung, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home.

Jimmie was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Hooppole, the son of Mervin and Hazel (Gudgell) Harker. He married Juanita Joy Combs on Feb. 18, 1951, in Hooppole. She preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 2009.  

Jimmie had a love of airplanes and received his pilot’s license while attending high school. For a brief time, he was a corporate pilot, flying for the John Deere Company until 1961. Motivated by his deep faith in God, he went on to become a minister at three churches until he retired. Jimmie will be remembered by his family for his unwavering love for his wife.

Survivors include one son, Russ Harker of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters, Gail (Nels) Nelson of Clarks, Nebraska, and Karen Greenfield of Mount Morris; two sisters, Carol (Erv) Massingill of Prophetstown, and Melva DeCraene of Woodstock; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jimmie’s family would like to thank and acknowledge his neighbors, friends, and church family for being a special part of his life in recent years.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Assembly Church in Grand Detour, with the Rev. Leandro Arellano, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Grand Detour Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Faith Assembly Church.
