BENTON (AP) – A 41-year-old man is dead after being struck by a tree in a southern Illinois logging accident.

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler said Anthony L. Tolliver of Clay City died while working just east of Benton.

Authorities are still investigating but say it appears Tolliver was using a chainsaw to cut the top out of a downed tree when another tree behind him fell on him.

He had head and chest injuries.

A co-worker at the site found him.

Authorities say Tolliver was working for R. L. Wells Logging Company from Clay City.
