Program to honor area veterans

PROPHETSTOWN – Army Ret. Col. James Wilhite, who led U.S., NATO, and Afghan troops in Afghanistan, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday at Prophetstown Eclipse Square Veterans Memorial Park on state Route 78 at Railroad Street.

Wilhite started his military career in 1966, and served in Afghanistan in 2004 and 2005. He will discuss his career and time in Afghanistan. Wilhite also wrote a book about his career, “We Answered the Call,” and will have copies available at the square after his presentation.

In case of rain, Wilhite will speak at the United Methodist Church, 200 W. Second St. All area veterans are welcome and will be honored at the presentation.

Activities will start at 6 p.m. with sandwiches and beverages provided by the Prophetstown Boy Scouts. Thicksten popcorn also will be available.

Those attending should bring lawn chairs for seating and may sign up to win door prizes. Winners must be present to receive their prize.

Music will follow the program.

The event will be hosted by Prophetstown American Legion Post 522.
