STERLING – Duis Recreation Center received the Five Star Award from the Starfish Aquatics Institute.

SAI recognized the center after an unannounced performance audit of the facility’s lifeguards and management staff July 2. Stephanie Milnes, center manager, accepted the award on behalf of Sterling Park District.

“Very few aquatic facilities qualify to receive this honor,” Leslie Donovan, president of SAI, said. “It represents a tremendous commitment to safety and training, and exceptional performance by the lifeguard staff on duty at the time.”

Lifeguards who contributed to achieving the award included Demi Reitzel, Jordan Sanchez, and Darion Scanlan.

Duis uses the SAI StarGuard Lifeguard Certification program.
