GOLD CANYON, Ariz. – Neta Bowman McCleary, 76, of Gold Canyon, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Arizona.
Neta was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Waggoner, the daughter of Forrest and Margaret (Blackmore) Bowman, She graduated from Sterling High School and in 1959, from the University of Iowa. Neta married Ward McCleary on Jan. 31, 1960. Neta enjoyed a successful and rewarding career in nursing for more than 46 years, which included service as director of nursing education and director of nursing at Broadlawns Medical Center; director and patient care coordinator of Hospice in Dubuque, Iowa, and Dover, Delaware; patient relations coordinator at Iowa Lutheran Hospital; and a nursing seminar consultant and educator.
Though she had many health concerns, Neta lived life to the fullest, always putting the needs of family and friends first. She will be greatly missed and remembered most for caring for others.
Neta is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ward; daughters, Bethaney (Curt) Campbell and Jennifer (Jason) Botka; sister, Bonnie Bowman; and grandchildren, Selah and Grant Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Joan Dunning.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. July 18 and the memorial service at noon July 18 at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. A Wise Choice Desert View Chapel in Mesa, Arizona, is handling arrangements.
