Pastor steps down from parish work

The Rev. Jon Koehler, formerly of Sterling, retired June 30 after 40 years in the Catholic priesthood, serving in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Koehler, 68, entered St. Mary Seminary in Kentucky at 18, then transferred to St. Joseph Seminary College in St. Benedict, Louisiana. He was ordained May 31, 1974, and has served the parishioners of the diocese as associate pastor at St. Aloysius and St. George churches in Baton Rouge, and at Holy Rosary Church in St. Amant.

He also was pastor of St. Gabriel Church in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, and of St. Pius X in Baton Rouge, before being assigned pastor to Holy Rosary.

He said he plans to remain involved in church ministry, rekindle relationships, and, hopefully, play more tennis. He often visits his cousin, Donald Koehler of Rock Falls.
