STERLING – Robert James Thurber, 81, of Sterling, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at CGH Medical Center. He was the director of sales at Wahl Clipper until his retirement in 1995.

He was born June 28, 1933, in Adams Friendship, Wisconsin, the son of James and Rose Roach. He served in the Army. Robert married Marie Mura in June 1961, in Los Angeles.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; one daughter, Julie (Tom) Diedenhofen of Bartlett; one son, Robert (Debbie) Thurber of Lindenhurst; one sister, Nea (Richard) Senatore of Sarasota, Florida.; two brothers, Jack (Sylvia) Thurber of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and Harold (Gerrie) Thurber of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and three grandchildren, Ellie Thurber and Ronin and Bonnie Diedenhofen.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James Thurber. 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Brandon Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling. 

A memorial has been established.
