ROCK FALLS – Thomas Russell Smith, 67, of Rock Falls, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.

Thomas was born June 22, 1947, in Sterling to Floyd and Dorothy (Payne) Smith. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and served in the Coast Guard. Thomas worked for Harper Oil as a district manager, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Rock Falls.

Survivors include three daughters, Christy (Robert) Smith of Wappapello, Missouri, Becky (Shawn Wyckstandt) Smith of Polo and Ashley (Kyle Russ) Smith of Rock Falls; one son, Jacob Smith of Rock Falls; three brothers, Tim (Laura) Smith of Elwood, Bob Smith and Floyd “Butch” Smith, both of Rock Falls; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Danny and David Smith; and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Michael Durham officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island. McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
