Fulton Steamers

2014-15 enrollment:
292 2013-14 enrollment: 290 Difference: +2

Boys sports: Baseball, basketball, football, golf, track & field, wrestling

Girls sports: Basketball, golf, softball, track & field, volleyball

Classes: Two class – A; Three class – 1A; Four class – 2A for boys and girl basketball, volleyball, 1A for baseball, softball; Football – determined by playoff qualifiers, but likely 1A

Looking back: A regular-season record of 11-17-3 didn’t strike fear into too many of the Steamers’ volleyball opponents at the start of the postseason. It should have. Fulton won regional and sectional titles in 2A before falling in the supersectional. The Steamers’ boys basketball team, led by senior Matt Dail and junior Zach Barber, placed third in the Three Rivers North and finished with a 21-9 record. The Steamers’ softball team finished well, and included TRAC North MVP Jenna Jones.

Looking ahead: The basketball team returns Barber and lockdown defender & assist machine Seth Sanderson. They should compete with Newman and Bureau Valley at the top of the TRAC North. The volleyball team loses a few key seniors, but players like Chelsea Lesniewski and Betsy Leonard should make Fulton a threat again.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
