Recycle stone, use it again in Rock Falls

Published: Saturday, July 5, 2014 1:15 a.m. CST

I write in reference to the old stone building that no one wants to deal with in downtown Rock Falls. I’m interested in the old stone building and think we ought to tear it down and save the stone for the new veterans hospital I want to build.

I had a hip replacement done in Iowa City. They did a superb and beautiful job. I have no pain, so I am very satisfied with the hospital, but we could have had it done just as well here and not had to burn Iowa gas.

I would like to tear it down and build it back all new, reusing the stone. I want new blue windows; they would really set it off. I don’t care what it costs. Our vets are worth it.

We recycle. Let’s get it done.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
