PRINCETON – Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience will provide the music for a free downtown street party from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 6 in Princeton.
The block of South Main Street from Peru to Marion streets will be closed.
Simien and his band will arrive fresh off performances at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in Davenport, Iowa, and the American Music Festival in the Chicago suburbs.
Zydeco music is a blend of Cajun, Creole, blues, jazz and soul.
Simien won his second Grammy in January, and has collaborated with Fats Domino, Sarah Vaughn and Randy Newman.
During the past 30 years, Simien and the band have performed more than 7,000 concerts in more than 45 countries.
Four and Twenty Café and Kramer’s Kitchen will be selling Louisiana-influenced cuisine at the street party. Fitzgerald’s Piano Lounge and Somewhere Else will sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Those attending can be bring lawn chairs.
In case of rain, the performance will be moved to the banquet room in the lower level of Fitzgerald’s, 432 S. Main St.
