Carlene Pruis

MORRISON – Carlene Pruis, 78, of Morrison, died Monday, June 23, 2014, at her home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1936, in Morrison, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Huizenga) Pruis. She was educated in the Delphi Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of Morrison High School. She then graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa. Later she attended the University of Colorado in Denver, receiving her master’s degree. 

Carlene worked at the Morrison Telephone Co. in the summers, while she was attending school. She was employed at several different schools in Sterling during her lifetime. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where she played the organ and piano. She also taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir, and leader in the Stonecroft Bible Study. Carlene enjoyed traveling in her younger years.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth (John) Boender of Sheldon, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Willard) Huizenga of Morrison; 10 nieces and nephews, John Pruis, Karl (Rose) Botkin, Mary Botkin, Jan Botkin, Dave (Vera) Boender, Andy (Susan) Boender, Ruth Ann Boender, Leanne (Bill) Boylan, Cindy Pruis, and Lynelle Gouger; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Kathy Bealer and Karen Price.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Analene Botkin; two brothers, James and Charles W. Pruis; one niece, Linda Pettinger; and one nephew, William Pruis, in infancy. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, with Ken Renkes, director of congregational care, officiating. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.

A memorial has been established to Ebenezer Reformed Church.
