Oregon man sinks hole-in-one

Collin Marshall, an
Oregon resident, recorded his first career ace during
the club tournament at Sunset Golf Course in Mount Morris.

Marshall used a pitching wedge on the 109-yard par-3 No. 7 on Sunday for his hole-in-one.

The shot was witnessed by Marc Tremble, Neil Antoine and Paul Blanco.

Blackburn wins club championship

Nathan Blackburn won the Emerald Hill club championship on Sunday with a 2-day total score of 2-under-par 142.

He shot a 1-over 73 during the first day, and finished with a 3-under 69 to wrap up the title.

Josh Kunde was second with 145, while Andrew Blackburn was third (147).

Jeff Sands won the “A” flight with a 153, Don Mekeel won the “B” flight with a 159, and Jim Moorehead won the “C” flight with a 180.


NW Illinois Hall of Fame to meet

The Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame will meet on Wednesday,
July 9, at Manny’s Pizza in Savanna.

An “Attitude Adjustment” will be held at 6 p.m., dinner will follow at 6:45 p.m., and the meeting will follow.  

Members are reminded to bring their completed Individual Nomination Forms for 2014.

USWNT goalkeeper arrested

United States women’s national team goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested late Friday night for allegedly striking her sister and nephew at her home that she shares with ex-NFL player Jerramy Stevens in Kirkland, Washington.

Police were called to the house around 1 a.m.

According to police, the USA standout is being held without bail for two counts of investigation domestic-violence assault.


Streelman wins PGA tourney

Kevin Streelman birdied the final seven holes to win the Travelers Championship by one stroke. He
finished his impressive showing at the tournament with a 15-under-par 265.

He broke the PGA Tour record for consecutive closing birdies by a
winner of six, set by Mike Souchak in the 1956
St. Paul Open.

Streelman matched the tournament record with a 7-under 28 on the final nine holes Sunday.

Lehman wins
Champions tourney

Tom Lehman played 48 bogey-free holes to start the Encompass Championship, but still needed a strong finish to win.

In a tight race for the win, Lehman finished birdie-birdie-par-birdie.

He drained a 12-footer on 18 to beat Kirk Triplett and Michael Allen by one stroke.

Lehman finished the 3-day tournament at 15-under-par.
