Josephine M. Boelkins

CHADWICK – Josephine Margaret Boelkins, 87, of Chadwick, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Josephine was born May 13, 1927, at home, in Fenton, the daughter of Peter and Flora (Huen) Temple. After high school, Josephine married Bernard Boelkins on May 13, 1948, in Fenton. Bernard died March 4, 1992, in Sterling.

Josephine worked for General Electric Co. in Morrison for 20 years, before retiring.  She also farmed with her husband, Bernard. for more than 20 years. Josephine was a longtime member of the Evangelical Free Church in Chadwick. She was active in several church functions, especially with S.A.L.T. women’s missionary. Josephine loved collecting cardinals, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed embroidering completing puzzles. She also enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, and taking care of her flowers. Most of all, Josephine cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Josephine will be dearly missed by five children, Lola Diehl of Milledgeville and Larry (Sue) Boelkins, Linda (Mark) Remmers, Kent Boelkins, and Kevin Boelkins, all of Chadwick; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty (Bill) Schaver and Genevieve (Harlan) Tiesman both of Fulton, and Beverly (Jim) Naftzger of Erie; one brother in-law, Bert Merema of Fulton; and a special friend, Tom Scidmore. 

Josephine also was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Flora Temple; one brother, Louis (Marilyn) Temple; two sisters, Florence (Al) Buis and Marion Merema; one granddaughter, Amy Sue Boelkins; and one son in-law, Don Diehl.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Evangelical Free Church in Chadwick. Burial will be at Chadwick Cemetery. Law-Jones Funeral Home is Chadwick handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Joesephine’s memory to Evangelical Free Church in Chadwick or to the Chadwick Fire Department.
