STERLING – Longtime local physician Dr. William Bird is CGH Medical Center’s new vice president and chief of quality and process improvement, CGH said Friday in a news release.

In this position, Bird will help identify areas at CGH that need improvement, decide which processes can be changed to improve outcomes, build a plan to make changes, and then track the results to measure and learn from the outcomes, the release said.

He also will oversee the CGH Wound Healing Center and co-manage the Population Health Department and the Risk and Quality Team.

“CGH is already committed to providing the highest level of quality care to our patients,” Bird said in the release. “I see this new opportunity as a way to help the organization in any way I can, while assuming a more active role in guiding our continuous improvement efforts.”

Bird, of Morrison, has been employed by CGH and the former Sterling Rock Falls Clinic since 1997; he was medical director of the now CGH Main Clinic for about 10 years. He currently administers the Population Health department, oversees the CGH Hospitalists and also is a family physician at the CGH Morrison Clinic and Vision Center, where his hours will remain the same.
