The 68th Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition has been kicked off by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary.
Area high school students have the opportunity to compete for scholarships and a trip to Washington, D. C.
Students begin by competing at the local post level, which has a Nov. 1 deadline. They must write and record a 3- to 4-minute essay on “Why Veterans Are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future” on an audio cassette tape or audio CD. The recording, a typed essay, and entry form are turned in to their local VFW.
Those interested should contact their local VFW post. Go to firstname.lastname@example.org to find the closest one. Go to vfw.org/community/voice-of-democracy/ for information on the competition.
