Train hits delivery truck stuck on track

Driver, not in cab, struck by debris

TAMPICO – An Ottawa man was injured when the delivery truck he was driving was struck by a train around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Matthew J. Wisniewski, 44, wasn’t in the truck when the train struck, but was injured by a piece of debris, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The truck got stuck on the southbound Union Pacific track, about a quarter-mile north of Cooper Road on County Line Road. The train hit the rear of the truck, sending it several yards down the track, the release said.

Wisniewski was taken to CGH Medical Center for evaluation.
