Decorated chairs sought for Lanark celebration

Published: Friday, June 20, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

LANARK – Lanark’s Sesquicentennial Book Committee members are asking residents to decorate chairs by June 28 for the Old Settlers Days parade.

During the annual celebration, which this year will be June 26-29, the committee will dedicate a historic marker for Charles Cotta, who invented the 4-wheel drive and steering. Cotta was born and raised near Lanark, and the Chair Flair program will recognize him this year.

Members of the Cotta family will attend. Friends of the Lanark Public Library started the Chair Flair program in 2012. Chairs do not have to feature Cotta or his inventions.

Call Lanark Public Library, 815-493-2166, for more information on the chairs. Go to lanarkil.com for more about Old Settlers Days.
