Classic Rewind – June 20, 2013

Tune up the band

When: Thursday, June 20, 2013

Where: Sauk Valley Community College

Scores: Boys – Telegraph 59, Gazette 52;
Girls – Telegraph 56, Gazette 51

MVPs: Ty Hartman (Eastland) 25 points, 7 rebounds; Rachel Hageman (Newman) 16 points, 8 rebounds

Recap: Hartman scored nearly half of his team’s points in the lowest-scoring boys Classic game in the 30-year history. Sterling’s Tre Whittaker, who had much of his senior season robbed by a knee injury, had 11 points and 11 rebounds. In the girls game, Hageman finally found success against players from Rock Falls and Sterling. Rock Falls’ Morgan Mammosser had 11 points for the Gazette. The game also featured an
All-Star pep band and All-Star cheerleading squad.

Coming this year

• The 2014 SVM All-Star Classic
will be coming from Musgrove
Fieldhouse on the campus of Sterling High School today. The girls game starts at 5 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7 p.m.

Dixon’s Michael
Conley was one of the few seniors on the roster for the Dukes’ best season in recent memory. That experience should help the Telegraph tonight against the Gazette team.
