Readers have a choice in news coverage

In response to Nancy Lenhart's [June 13] letter "Let God’s law be obeyed, not same-sex law," I have a few suggestions for those who are having trouble accepting the year 2014.

1) If you open your local newspaper and you see local news you don't like (i.e. the first gay couple to legally marry in Whiteside County), proceed to take your hand and turn the page.

2) SVM is not a Christian paper, it is not a gay paper, it is not a Muslim paper. It is a local paper, covering local news in our local community. It just so happens that the first gay wedding in Whiteside County is local news.

3) Finally, I realize that change is never easy. If reading or watching the news of gay marriages is troubling you, I suggest you stop reading or watching the news and don't worry about it. After all, isn't that God's job?

P.S. I offer my congratulations to the happy couple.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
