ASHTON – Barbara Derby Baylor, 77, of Ashton, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Barbara was born June 4, 1937, at a hospital in Amboy, the daughter of Floyd and Doris (Richardson) Derby. She married Jack Baylor on April 20, 1958, in Ashton. Barbara was a member of Ashton United Methodist Church. 

Barbara taught in the Ashton Community Unit schools for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed her years with “her” children, many of whom she still kept in touch with. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts, playing cards, and family and friends. Christmas was her favorite time of year, when friends and family were always in touch. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team in the summer.

Survivors include her husband, Jack; one son, Edward (Karen) Baylor of Ashton; one daughter, Rebecca Baylor of Silverthorne, Colorado; and two grandsons, Ryan Baylor of Ashton and Ethan Baylor of Collinsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ashton United Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Sang Hun Han officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center. Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home in Ashton is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to Ashton United Methodist Church and Ashton Fire and Ambulance Department.
