Doubles tournament comes to Rock Falls

Schreiner’s Mobil and the Coloma Township Park District are sponsoring a doubles tennis tournament set for June 21.

Men’s and women’s doubles will begin at 9 a.m., while mixed doubles will start at 1 p.m.

Steelers Hall of Fame coach dies

Chuck Noll, the only coach to win four Super Bowls, died Friday.

Noll, 82, had been in ill health for years with Alzheimer’s disease, a heart condition and back problems. He died in his sleep at his home in Sewickley, Pa.

He coached the Pittsburgh Steelers for 23 years, starting in 1969. His first team went 1-13. His fifth won the Steelers first NFL championship in Super Bowl IX. They would win four Super Bowls in 6 years.


Illii transfer Cosby plays in China

Aaron Cosby, a U of I transfer from Seton Hall, recently returned from a 16-day trip to China.

He averaged 18.1 points in 9 games against professional teams from China and Lithuania.


Four U.S. cities in play for 2024 games

Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington are still in the running for a possible U.S. bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics

Los Angeles hosted the 1932 and 1984 Olympics. The other three cities would be first-time hosts.
