Ruth E. Book

DIXON – Ruth Elaine Book, 84, of Dixon, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at her home, after a brave struggle with a terminal illness. She and her husband, Donald, established Book Farms in 1954, in South Dixon Township. The four-generation business continues to expand with the addition of two sons and two grandsons.

Ruth was born April 23, 1930, in Amboy, the daughter of Buren and Jennie (Vincent) Bybee. She married Donald Martin Book on Feb. 11, 1951, in Scarboro. Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dixon, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lee County Genealogical Society, and KSB Hospital Auxiliary, serving as a “Pink Lady” for many years. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and world-traveling adventures. 

Survivors include her husband of 63 wonderful years, Donald Book, and two sons, James (Karla) Book and David Book, all of Dixon; one daughter, Nancy (Lorin) Peterson of Flagstaff, Arizona; one brother, Francis (Margaret) Bybee of Ottawa; one sister, Rita (Lloyd) Richardson of Davis Junction; one sister-in-law, Emma Bybee; nine grandchildren, Kris Book of Paris, Mike (Kristen) Book, and Aaron (Kathy) Book, both of Dixon, Rachel (Kevin) Heneghan of Wheaton, Natalee (Brian) Atkinson of Franklin Grove, Allison (Steve Andrews) Book of Itasca, Megan (Rex) Ribelin of Salt Lake City, and Ashley Peterson of Flagstaff; one stepgrandson, Eric (Angela) Peterson of Flagstaff; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marie Herrler; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Bybee.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Mike Jones, pastor, officiating. Private graveside service will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church in Dixon.
