Margaret I. Rau

DIXON – Margaret I. Rau, 92, of Dixon, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at her home.

She was born July 24, 1921, in Dixon, the daughter of Herbert William and Georgia (Pruitt) Mayes. She graduated from Dixon High School and St. Charles Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps during World War II.

She married John Rau in 1952, in New York City. He preceded her in death in 1978. She lived in New York City for 36 years, returning to this area in 1981.  

Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Bob) Rau Luckraft; one son, John C. (Joanne) Rau; one grandson, John W. Rau; one brother, William Mayes; two sisters, Dorothy (Lester) Hill and Phyllis (Andy) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Virginia Suits, Georgia Ryan, Lucille Grove, Shirley Fane, and Lois Reigle; and her brothers, David and George Mayes.

There will be no services at this time. A memorial service will be at a later date with burial of cremains at Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
