STERLING – YWCA of the Sauk Valley’s free Juneteenth CommUNITY Freedom Festival will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Propheter Park, 506 E. Sixth St.

There will be live entertainment, a children’s fun fair, and a bounce house. Jeremy the Amazer with Sterling Kiwanis will make balloon animals. Concessions will include Papa Tom’s Famous BBQ, tacos, sno cones, and popcorn, and there will be a bake sale and a market featuring goods from local gardeners, businesses, and associations.

Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in America. June 19, 1865, was the day news of emancipation reached slaves in Texas.
