Appreciates prairie sign on Sauk campus

Published: Saturday, June 21, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

The erection of the sign at Sauk Valley Community College for the Natural Area Guardian Prairie Restoration is greatly appreciated.

We are especially gratified by the dedication to the late Zollie Hall, who played such an important role in establishing the prairie in the 1980s.

The benefits of native prairie to our environment are consistently becoming more evident. If only one monarch butterfly is drawn to the flowers in the Sauk prairie, or one student can view the rare native plants that greeted the first settlers when they came to our community, then the prairie at SVCC will have accomplished an important goal.

Thank you to President George Mihel and the Sauk Valley Community College Board of Trustees for taking the time to study the situation and to allow the prairie restoration to remain in its present site, preserving this bit of history for future generations to enjoy.
