Charles E. Blaine

AMBOY – Charles E. Blaine, 96, of Amboy, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.

He was born Oct. 29, 1917, in East Grove Township, Lee County, the son of Frank and Matilda (Hamann) Blaine. He married Ann Ogan on April 6, 1940, in Maytown. He farmed in the Maytown area for many years before retiring in 1987.

Charles was an avid hunter, and he enjoyed hiking and the outdoors. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Survivors include his wife of Amboy; five children, Janet Theriault of Franklin, Wisconsin, Jim Blaine of Amboy, Barb Protiva of Flagstaff, Arizona, Cathy (Bruce) Schultz of Ohio, and Jeff Blaine of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Blaine; three brothers, Clarence, Edwin, and Lester Blaine; one sister, Pearl Piper; a half brother, Lawrence Blaine; and two half sisters, Hazel Blaine and Leah Krieger.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Dennis Morrissy officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Amboy.
