MVPs: Boys – Isaiah Johnson (Rock Falls) 24 points, Stephen Manus (Forreston) 22 points; Girls – Chelsey Bunyer (Eastland) 12 points; Tara Michels (Dixon) 26 points

Recap: After 20 years of Classic games, the girls were finally allowed to play. It was about time considering the bevy of talent in the area. Bunyer had a personal 8-0 run in the second half that allowed the Gazette to pull away. On the boys side, Manus was a force with 22 points and 19 rebounds, while Johnson spearheaded the Gazette win.

Coming this year

• The 2014 SVM All-Star Classic will be coming from Musgrove Fieldhouse on the campus of Sterling High School on June 19, 2014. The girls game starts at 5 p.m. The boys game will follow at 7 p.m.

Amboy’s Damon Quest was the third leading scorer in the area in 2014, averaging 18.2 points per game.
